Located into the foothills of Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Canton is a treasure for history buffs and lovers of arts, culture and the great outdoors.

Canton, the seat of Cherokee County, is located 40 miles north of Atlanta. The town’s 23,000 residents enjoy a small town lifestyle with easy access to a major airport and other amenities a large city like Atlanta provides.

The seat of Cherokee County, Canton is enjoying a 21st Century revival. The former textile town was home to the Canton Cotton Mill, which shut down in 1979. Today, new downtown streetscapes, along with parks and upgraded sidewalks, have made the community pedestrian friendly. Its Etowah River Greenway anchors the 30-acre Heritage Park and new playing fields for baseball, softball and soccer. A new community center, developed in partnership with the Metro-Atlanta YMCA features a state of the art fitness center and houses the Cherokee Sports Hall of Fame.

The Cherokee County Historical Society displays the area’s vibrant history and is dedicated to historic preservation. The Cherokee County History Museum and Visitor’s Center displays artifacts, photographs and features an interactive presentation on the area’s unique heritage.
